Rick Owens: Changing The Way We Do Fashion
I follow WWD on Facebook and I stumbled across an article they wrote about Rick Owens while shifting through my timeline. To be honest, the only reason I clicked on the link was because he had the last name Owens and you never see too many famous people with the last name Owens. The only one that comes to mind is the football player Terrell Owens, but his career is pretty much over so I was excited to see the name Rick Owens featured in WWD. As soon as I started reading the article, I became an instant fan. First, I love what he stands for. His spring 2014 womenswear collection showcased women of all shapes and sizes strutting his designs down the runway in a ground- breaking way. If there is one word to describe his show, It’s powerful! The models preformed a synchronized step- dancing routine never done before by any designer, well at least not to my knowledge. The crowd, including myself as I watched the show on YouTube, sat at full attention cheering and applauding though- out the entire show. Owens's collection reflects his own personal style, which is very grunge with a hint of glamour. Although I am usually opposed to the grunge look, I wouldn't mind rocking some of the pieces from his collection such as the sneakers he designed with Adidas, his structured jackets, dresses and his tunic shirts.
