I wrote this poem ironically right before Maya Angelou passed away back when I was going though a hard time with school and kind of felt like my future was in jepardy. I felt like I wasn't good enough to obtain my future goals and I felt this way because I had let a recent downfall, that resulted in failure, affect my current state of mind. This poem gave me the courage and perserverance to overcome this setback and come out victorious. I hope that this poem can be as helpful of a tool for others as it was for me, even If it only reaches the soul of one other individual.
Still I rise.
Through every heartache and pain,
Loneliness and separation.
Still I rise.
Through every embarrassment, depression or feeling of never being quite good enough.
Still I rise.
Although always feeling second best is second nature.
I rise.
In spite of,
Being made fun of,
Pre judged or falsely accused.
Still I rise. Still I rise
I rise because I am.
I rise because I will.
Overcome any and every obstacle,
Every trial, tribulation,
Storm, setback or failure,
And to all those people trying to break a sista down,
Absolutely no weapon formed against me shall prosper.
Because just like the warm glaze of the sun every morning about around 7,
I rise. I rise. I rise.

Somehow I can’t believe that there are any heights that can’t be scaled by a man who knows the secrets of making dreams come true. This special secret, it seems to me, can be summarized in four C s. They are curiosity, confidence, courage, and constancy, and the greatest of all is confidence. When you believe in a thing, believe in it all the way, implicitly and unquestionable. – Walt Disney
